Our mission is to articulate the interests and opinions of African-American students on the campus the University of Houston-Downtown. BSA promotes projects and events beneficial to the student body, and to provide a voice for African-American students. BSA serves to establish an unshakeable bond between black students, black faculty and the general Houston community to promote the development of educational opportunities and to increase awareness of black culture. The group provides a central forum for the open dialogue of political, spiritual, cultural, economic, social and academic conditions in the black community.

At the forefront of out mission is our comittment to leadership. BSA serves as a vehical to develop the leadership skills of our members in order to be productive members in the community.

We promote unity within our organization and especially within the world we live, we believe that unity is stregnth and that great things can be achieved through collaboration.

Our most important principle is scholarship. We have seen over and over how education can change the course of the black man/woman, the back family and the black community. Our organization stresses the importance of scholarship in order to rise and inspire our future.

Service teaches us humility and gives us a look at the world around us. Learning to be empathetic of the blight of others is a valuable lesson as we uplift the community around us.
